The City of Tomball offers benefits for regular, full-time employees. These benefits are designed to offer protection and security for the present as well as the future.
Health insurance is offered to all regular, full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Medical coverage is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield, and employees have the option of choosing coverage through a PPO or an HSA plan. Dental coverage is provided by Aetna and vision coverage is provided by Superior Vision. All employees are covered by workers compensation for injuries sustained on the job.
The City of Tomball provides full-time employees life insurance through Cigna. The city provides employees with a Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance benefit of one times the employee’s base annual earnings up to $150,000, at no cost to the employee.
Employees may purchase supplemental life and/or supplemental AD&D insurance up to 7 times their salary or a maximum of $500,000. With the purchase of supplemental life insurance, employees may also purchase voluntary supplemental polices for a spouse and/or child(ren). The spouse coverage may not exceed the employee’s voluntary policy and the child policy is for either $5000 or $10,000.
Prices are based on the age of the employee and/or their spouse.
The City of Tomball provides Long-Term disability through Cigna for all full-time employees and is paid in full by the city.
Flexible Spending Account
The City of Tomball offers a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to all full-time employees. This FSA allows the employee to set aside a portion of each paycheck to cover unreimbursed medical expenses on a pre-tax basis, up to $2500 per year.
Employees can also choose to set aside a portion of each paycheck on a pre-tax basis, for eligible child care and dependent care expenses up to $5,200 per year.
The City of Tomball participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees contribute 7% of their pre-taxed earnings to their personal TMRS account. Upon retirement, the City of Tomball will match the employee’s contribution two to one.
The City of Tomball offers an optional 457 deferred compensation plan through ICMA-RC to supplement the TMRS pension plan. Employees can contribute a portion of their pre-taxed earnings to their ICMA account. Employees also have the option of contributing to a Roth IRA through ICMA-RC.
All full time employees will receive $5 per month for each month worked payable in a lump sum at the end of each calendar year.
The City of Tomball provides educational assistance to its employees for additional job related educational development.
Employees are furnished with uniforms if required to wear uniforms in the position for which they were hired. Employees will receive their uniform according to each departmental policy.
Less than 5 years of service: 10 days per year
Five years through eleven years of service: 15 days per year
Twelve years through 19 years of service: 20 days per year
Twenty years of service: 21 days per year
Twenty-One years of service: 22 days per year
Twenty-Two years of service: 23 days per year
Twenty-three years of service: 24 days per year
Twenty-Four or more years of service: 25 days per year
Full-time employees earn 10 days of sick leave per year.
Full-time employees receive 10 paid holidays per year.
Full-time employees receive 2 paid personal days per year.
